Written and Illustrated by: Yvonne Craig
Some Days. . . I Feel is a book about BIG FEELINGS during difficult times. First of all, my daughter loved the illustrations of the bird character. Cute and fluffy looking, it kept her engaged. The wide eyes helped to show the emotions on each page. This colorfully illustrated book is short (text wise), but impactful and has coping mechanisms that children. . .and adults can put into action on the spot.
Here are some questions to get your minds thinking after you read this book as a family:
1. Act out how you look when you feel nervous. What has made you feel this way?
2. What made the little bird embarrassed?
3. Where is your comfy place?
4. Can you count to ten?
5. What does the beautiful day look like that you would imagine?
6. Which animal friend in the book is your favorite?
7. Where is your favorite place in nature?
8. Who are three people you can talk to when you feel big emotions?
We all feel big emotions and teaching children how to cope with them is important early on in life. These are simple skills that can carry on into adulthood to help them become well adjusted. Remember to remind them you want to hear about when they are happy too, or when they have small emotions. Communication is important no matter what people are feeling. One of the biggest ways you can help is by displaying good behavior. Communicate your feelings with them, when they see you expressing yourself in a healthy way, they will want to emulate this behavior. Makes sure you take a turn and answer the questions as well, your children want to learn from you too, and it is good to learn how to take turns and listen to others.
