Have you ever been in a pouty mood? Or had someone in your house in a pouty mood? This book is simply adorable and fun! It is a rhyming book that is done right and the illustrations are fun to look at. But reader BEWARE! You will be resighting the versus in your sleep.
This adorable fish thinks he is doomed to be miserable and that is just the way life is going to be. It is a great speaking point for children. You can point out that those around him try to cheer him up and would rather be around someone in a good mood. Ask if they have ever been around someone grumpy and what they have done to try and make them happy. I think it is also wise to point out that you don’t always have to be happy either, it is normal to have ups and downs in life. That is why you have family and friends there to support you.
In the end, the pout-pout fish comes to find a whole new outlook on life. It is a great way to see that there is always an opportunity to turn things around. Adding another spin for Family Book Club, you can discuss body image. The feature the pout-pout fish is focused on is his lips. He seems glum about how they look and for him they determine his outlook on life. But one fish’s compliment on them can change his entire view of the world. It is a great opportunity to talk to your children about loving who they are and giving compliments freely, because you never know how it could truly change someone’s life.
A big thank you to my Uncle Steve for gifting this book to my girls, we have loved reading it to them over the years.
